Method

This is a classic clinical audit cycle that was plugged into a business case. We isolated what was then the gold standard of care and associated outcome measures. Those measure were recorded prospectively post-change. Retrospective analysis of pre-change data was also analysed.

Conclusion

The health economic and clinical benefit impact was so significant that not only was the change and funding justified, but increased funding was granted. Furthermore, the outcomes have been presented nationally and internationally by the lead-clinician and the suggested refinement of the outcome measures in the conclusion of the audit have been published.
